A Denture Needs Daily Care and Maintenance

Posted .

Our dentist, Dr. Gregory L. Bryan specializes in permanent and removable dental restorations. This sometimes includes providing his patients with a complete or partial denture to replicate the basic appearance and function of missing teeth.

While these removable dental appliances will not be vulnerable to tooth decay, a denture still does require some daily care and maintenance. This will help maintain it and help it to fit comfortably. You should thoroughly rinse your denture under running water any time you take it out. You will also need to lightly scrub all the surfaces with a soft-bristled toothbrush and nonabrasive toothpaste to remove any food particles and plaque buildup. You should then soak the denture in water and a denture solution.

Brushing your tongue or cleaning it with a tongue scraper can help remove plaque and bacteria from your mouth. This might also help to reduce bad breath. Partial denture users also need to make a conscious effort to brush their existing teeth each morning and night as well, as making sure to floss at least once per day. This can help preserve your remaining teeth and ensure that your dentures will fit you well.
